Beebe Medical Center’s main hospital campus is located in historical Lewes, “the first City, in the first State”. Located along Savannah Road, between Fourth Street and Blockhouse Pond, the hospital is situated on approximately 10 acres of land, most of which has been developed to facilitate the hospital’s expansion, including a parking garage and ancillary medical office buildings.
Land records in Lewes date back to the mid 1700’s, and as expected, can be very difficult to interpret, let alone map. The hospital was comprised of twenty separate parcels, acquired over time, and despite hiring several reputable local firms, Beebe Medical administrators were never able to gather one comprehensive and overall property survey. At the request of the project architect, ARH joined the design team, and performed a comprehensive title review, subsequently piecing all the original land parcels together, and providing the hospital with one boundary. Detailed topographic locations and subsurface utility investigations completed the scope of work, and the hospital had what they needed – a complete accurate account of boundary, land improvements, underground utility records and zoning analysis.
ARH engineers joined the project team, and increased the scope by working with the architectural design group to redesign the new emergency room ambulatory entrance. Our design efforts included modified site, grading, structural, and utility plans; all meeting local review approvals without stoppage or delays in construction.
