The Gloucester County Special Services School District (GCSSSD) is constructing a Miracle League Field of Dreams. The Miracle League is an organization that allows handicapped children to participate in baseball games. The GCSSSD has started a Gloucester Chapter of the Miracle League to allow children in the Gloucester County the opportunity to play baseball on a local Field of Dreams. The Field of Dreams is an asphalt playing surface that allows for handicapped accessibility. The asphalt is covered with a playing surface that provides color to the field, is durable and provides a degree of safety.
ARH was named by the GCSSSD to provide site engineering services that included site design to allow for the various elements including grading, site drainage, and landscaping design. ARH also subcontracted Garrison Architects to provide architectural services for the design of the dugouts and the conversion of a portion of a pole barn for use as a concession stand. ARH worked directly in various elements of the design with District personnel to provide budgeting, develop the final design, prepare the final bid set, assembled the bid documents, provided bidding assistance, and is involved with the construction management of the project.
The Field of Dreams will be operational for Fall 2008, and a ceremonial first season will be conducted by the Gloucester County Miracle League. The field will also be used by the Bankbridge Developmental Center and Bankbridge Elementary School as part of their recreational programs for the physically and developmentally disabled.
